HISTORY OF BLUE RIDGE

The first inhabitants of Blue Ridge were the Cherokee Indians. They settled in this area for its abundance of fertile land, natural resources and peaceful surroundings. The name "Blue Ridge" was given to the town by the Cherokee people as a result of the blue haze that surrounds the mountains.

In 1834, the Georgia General Assembly designated Blue Ridge as Fannin County's county seat. The town quickly grew and became a bustling hub for trade and commerce. With the arrival of the railroad in 1886, Blue Ridge further flourished as it provided easy access for goods and people to come in and out of the town.

The town maintains its small-town charm while offering a variety of activities for visitors to enjoy, including hiking, fishing, and exploring the quaint downtown area filled with locally-owned shops and restaurants.
